1 ½ C. Shortening (Crisco)
l ½ C. Sugar
6 Eggs
Pinch of salt
5 tsp. Baking powder
½ C. Anise seeds
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 C. Almonds (sliced or chopped)
5 C. Flour

Cream shortening, sugar, salt, vanilla, and anise seeds. Mix in flour, baking powder, eggs, and almonds by hand. Divide into 6 or 8 logs, approx. 10-12 inches long. Bake on lightly greased baking sheet, whole, at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Remove from oven. Toast both sides until golden brown.
