Italy is witnessing a significant rise in the number of people reaching 100 years of age and older; a development with both uplifting and challenging implications for the country. According to Istat (the Italian national statistics agency), as of January 1, 2025, there were 23,548 residents in Italy aged 100 or over. That is more than 2,000 more than the 21,211 centenarians recorded a year earlier. Going further back, the number has more than doubled since 2009. In addition to those reaching 100, there are also growing numbers of “semi-supercentenarians” (aged 105 +) — 724 such individuals were recorded as of January 2025. There are 19 people in Italy aged 110 or more (“supercentenarians”) as of the same date.

Secondo l'Istat (Istituto Nazionale di Statistica), dal primo gennaio 2025, gli italiani con età pari o superiore a 100 anni erano 23.548. Nel 2024, erano 21.211. Il numero è quindi aumentato di oltre 2.000 persone. Dal 2009, il numero dei centenari è più che raddoppiato. Tra questi centenari, c’è un numero elevato di "semi-supercentenari" che significa le persone di almeno 105 anni. A gennaio 2025, c’erano 724 persone. Ci sono anche 19 italiani di età pari o superiore a 110 anni, noti come supercentenari.
