Abruzzo is a region with great traditions. The Easter holiday brings traditional symbols rich in love and religion to the table to celebrate. During Easter celebrations in Abruzzo, special attention is paid both to children and to the sacredness of breakfast. Grandmothers and neighbors make traditional cookies called cavallucci and pupe for children while blessed eggs and salame nostrano are served to represent the sacredness of the feast. Easter breakfast is certainly one of the richest and most characteristic meals of the year. In respecting all the rules of the Abruzzese tradition, a selection of typical items is served: coratella of lamb; local salame, once often accompanied by blessed olive leaves as an added religious symbol; blessed eggs; and the traditional Easter regional pie infused with anise to replace bread.
