Alberobello
“I Borghi più belli d’Italia” (The most beautiful villages in Italy), is a list which includes the town Alberobello, located in southern Italy in the region of Puglia. The name itself, Alberobello, translates to “beautiful tree.”
Alberobello is easily identified with its districts of more than 1,500 whitewashed, conical, limestone, homes known as trulli. They are mainly in Rione Monti and Rione Aia Piccola, which is more of a residential area.
This town truly (pun intended) possesses an aura of fairytales with its narrow lanes, lined with white trulli, decorated with beautiful vegetation, and enveloped in a peaceful atmosphere. It is especially quiet, with less tourists, yet still has warm weather, during the months of September and October.
In 1996, Alberobello was named a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is easily reached from other towns, all worth visiting, in the Puglia region.
