As adventures go, my 91-year-old mother, Josephine Serio, and soon to be 90-year-old aunt (her sister) decided they needed to make a pilgrimage back to their hometown in Sicily. They were born in a small mountain town called Galati Mamertino which is in the province of Messina. So, my brother and I and our wives set out to fulfill their wishes.

The trip had to be centered around the feast days of their patron Saint Giacomo. This is the time of year when everyone from Galati heads back for a reunion with family and friends. We dropped them with family and headed for a little adventure of our own. We reunited in time for the big feast. They had the time of their lives. It was an unforgettable experience for all, one we and they will never forget!
