The Murals of Little Italy Cleveland
Strolling through Cleveland’s Little Italy neighborhood you will see many vibrant murals and wall art lining the street, in the alleys, and in some of the shops.
Starting at the bottom of Mayfield Hill, the mural depicts scenes from the University Circle area, including the Hessler Street Fair, the Peter B. Lewis building at Case Western Reserve University, MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art), and the Cleveland Museum of Art. As you ascend the hill, the mural pays tribute to the Italian immigrants who settled and founded Little Italy in the 19th century. It includes landmarks such as Holy Rosary Church, Alta House and Brescia Park.
The murals are pieces of art connecting the old and the new, depicting and preserving the history and traditions of the neighborhood’s rich cultural history and artistic spirit.
The murals, painted by local artists, are community-driven projects often supported by local businesses and residents.
Next time you visit Little Italy Cleveland, I encourage you to take a walk through the neighborhood to see culturally rich murals.
