Turn on the tap, and surprise, wine comes out

Last month, people living in the small village of Castelvetro near Modena in the Emilia-Romagna region got a surprise when they turned on their kitchen taps. Instead of water, the taps were pouring wine. A fault at a nearby winery resulted in wine accidentally being pumped into the local water supply. The wine was the locally-produced Lambrusco Grasparossa, local newspaper Gazzetta di Modena reported. One of the nearby Settecani winery’s silos leaked the wine into its water pipes serving nearby homes a taste of its famous product. While some residents complained about the safety of their water supply, the majority were upset that it was corrected so quickly. Residents were able to “bottle as much of the precious liquid as they could to enjoy later at a lunch or dinner along with other typical Modenese specialties” wrote the Gazzetta di Modena.
