Italy mourns the death of Giuseppina Projetto, dubbed the "grandmother of Italy"

As Italy mourns the death of Giuseppina Projetto (1903-2018), dubbed the “grandmother of Italy,” the country, at the same time, is celebrating “Nonna Peppa,” now the oldest woman in Europe. Maria Giuseppa Robucci, Nonna Peppa, is 115-years-old and lives in the Italian region of Puglia. She also holds the title of Italy’s oldest mayor, having been named honorary mayor of her hometown, Poggio Imperiale, in 2015. Robucci was born in 1903 and, according to a local Italian newspaper, has had five children, nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and managed a bar with her late husband. Asked for her secret to longevity, Robucci has said abstaining from alcohol and cigarettes has kept her healthy.

Mentre l’Italia compiange la scomparsa di Giuseppina Projetto (1903-2018), soprannominata  “la nonna d’Italia”, il Paese al contempo celebra “Nonna Peppa”, attualmente la donna più anziana d’Europa. Maria Giuseppa Robucci ha 115 anni e vive in Puglia. Detiene anche il titolo di Sindaco più longevo, essendo stata nominata nel 2015 Sindaco onorario della sua cittadina,  Poggio Imperiale. La Robucci è nata nel 1903 e, secondo quanto riportato da un giornale locale, ha cinque figli, nove nipoti e sedici pronipoti. Ha gestito un bar insieme al defunto marito. Alla domanda sul segreto della sua longevità, ha risposto che l’essersi astenuta dal consumo di alcol e tabacco la ha mantenuta in buona salute.
