Lifelong Akron Friends Write Tribute to North Hill Neighborhood

For authors Tom Allio, David DiDomenico, and Don Ursetti, there’s no place like home: the Akron, Ohio, neighborhood of North Hill.

Throughout 60 essays of the mostly fictionalized memoir, “The Goomba Chronicles,” the authors, family, friends, and well-known North Hill neighbors are depicted in fanciful, humorous situations: A saint finds wayward husbands and bail jumpers, nuns are the toughest judges of, well, everything, a special funeral package includes frat-boy mourners, and readers finally find out the real reason Mr. Jingeling doesn’t appear in “A Christmas Story”. A “True Stories” section features remembrances of immigrants, community leaders and local sports stars.

All three goombas are practiced storytellers. One learned his craft by working for the Catholic Church, another in local broadcasting and government and the third while selling insurance. In the book, we see their beloved neighborhood through their eyes as
mischievous boys (Italian Words), comically enterprising young men (Arthur Fonzarelli Look-Alike Contest) and doting grandfathers (G. and Me).

“It all began with lighthearted conversations between high school classmates,” Allio said.

“The Goomba Chronicles” is available on Amazon in print ($19.95) and on Kindle ($5.99).

“We hope readers take a walk with us down memory lane and embrace a simpler time that brought us laughter, love, and fond memories of a time and place that formed our lives,” Allio said.

The goombas are available for interviews. Review copies are available upon request. For more information, contact the Goombas: Tom Allio @ This email address is being protected from spambots.
