Many Italian immigrants were in regular contact with their families and others back home. The need to maintain strong ties with the old country and support family members prompted them to send money, either by including dollars with their correspondence or, in the case of large funds, by wiring money to Italy. 

Thus, immigrants in America made their presence felt back home. They also accomplished this by funding church construction, sacred artwork, masses, and
