Meet bybecca: The Vintage-Inspired Jewelry Brand Rooted in Italian Heritage

Becca Serio, originally from Twinsburg, OH and who now calls Austin, Texas home, has always had a passion for jewelry and fashion and styling. “I love finding new ways to wear and style things, I love vintage shopping and having unique one-of-a-kind pieces, especially if there is a story behind it. I think clothing is such a beautiful form of self-expression and I love to see what other people put together and get inspiration from that.”

It was this passion for style that inspired Becca to create bybecca, a vintage-inspired jewelry collection designed and made in the U.S.A. Launched in September 2024, bybecca’s collection features gorgeous pieces and will soon offer styling services to clientele. “I believe you feel your best and can be your best self if you are confident in how you look and what you wear” Serio says.

Becca’s family hails from Galati Mamertino, Frazzano and Mirto, all near the Messina area of Sicily. “I’ve always been deeply rooted in my heritage and have had the luxury of traveling to Italy and seeing the town where my grandparents grew up.” Growing up, Becca would spend hours sifting through her grandma’s jewelry boxes and “borrowing” items. “Jewelry is a deeply rooted tradition in my family and has always been gifted for major life events like birthdays, baptisms, first communions, and graduations. It has sentimental value and connects us to previous generations. Every piece tells a story.”

Becca’s journey in the jewelry industry began when her father came up with the idea of partnering and starting a business of her selling the jewelry he would manufacture. “I currently work in tech sales alongside running bybecca. My dad and I are business partners and everything I know is because of him. I am constantly learning but it’s been such a great journey so far and I am so thankful to have him by my side in all of it. It has brought us closer than ever. My family and friends are the most important thing to me, and I love every chance I get to spend with them and create memories.”

“My dad and I had the opportunity to go to Italy at the beginning of the year, and we attended the largest jewelry expo in Europe where we learned so much about the industry. Moreover, we got to have a really special father-daughter trip to Italy, and embrace the culture we know and love together.”

Becca says that growing up in a large Italian family has shaped her into the person she is today. “I was fortunate enough to grow up close to my nonna and nonno and all my aunts, uncles and cousins and we would have dinner together every single Sunday. We would celebrate every holiday together and my nonna and nonno were always at all our important life events - dance competitions, graduations, sporting events. The importance of family was the core value my parents instilled in me from a young age.”

“Being surrounded by my Italian family and our traditions makes me feel proud. Now, living thousands of miles away in Austin, I don’t get to see my family as much, but the traditions still carry with me. Whenever I hear the music or go to an Italian restaurant, I am reminded of home and family and that is something I always get to carry with me no matter where I am.”

Bybecca is growing every day. “With there being so many different jewelry brands out there it is important to have a differentiating factor that makes us stand out. For us, we have a few. One is that we are designed, manufactured, and plated in the United States. Today so many products are outsourced, especially jewelry, and we are proud that we are produced domestically. Another is that a lot of our pieces are named after members of my family who inspired the brand and some of the pieces are inspired by items that my family has passed down to me.

My nonna, great aunt ciccia and grandma are some of the biggest influences in my life and of this brand and there is a ring that my ciccia has that I have always loved. Our Francesca ring is inspired by her ring and named after her. Along with the Josephine ring and Diane watchband bracelet. Not only is the brand inspired by family members, but the story and mission of our brand is about family and high quality, passing down pieces to your kids and grandkids, creating a story and being more than just another jewelry brand.” Shop bybecca at bybeccashop.myshopify.com.
